David Ludwig’s fellowship at the Institute for the History of the Natural Sciences (INHS) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS)
GEOS member David Ludwig will be a fellow at the Institute for the History of the Natural Sciences (INHS) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in Beijing from August to October 2024. The project aims to develop a historically and philosophically informed account of intercultural dialogues about the governance of science. It aims for an intercultural articulation of the concept of "humanizing science" that contrasts with both "nationalist science" and "universalist science." In contrast with universalist science, a humanizing attitude recognizes that science is always a human practice that is embedded in diverse cultures and histories. In contrast with nationalist science, it emphasizes the importance of international cooperation and solidarity as shared commitments in a global science system.
